THEM part 2

0

When we had our interview done with the first family, we searched for the other one who MANA BEKAY told me has a worse case.

We were able to locate them about 25 meters away from the previous family, now here the father is 45 years old, a fisherman too and has tuberculosis, lives with the wife, 26 years old, was not able to go to school and earns from sidelines in doing household chores and asks for food as her fee. They had 8 kids and none of those kids goes to school. The kids were wrapped in dirty clothes, their house is worse than FAMILY A. the father was not there and the mother too. Only 3 kids were on their house, one ages 1, the other were 3 and 4. the kids eats lugaw (rice porridge) and drinks water in a dirty cup. The mucus from their nose runs to their mouth and the smell will make you instead avoid them, feel pity on them.

The kids were so aloof and seemed to be very shy, they don’t talk, they don’t even smile, all they do is stare at you and wanders. I entered the house and saw the baby sitting on the doorsteps waiting for his mama to come home and feed him. The kid seemed to be hungry that time who patiently waits for his mom. The kitchen were so untidy and the foods were invisible.

The neighbors told us that sometimes they lend food to this family but only if they had extra food left. But sometimes all they could do is to watch them because they also had problems of their own.

We went where the mother was and found her at MANA BEKAY’s house. She’s refilling tuba (coconut wine) from jugs into galloons. I asked her some questions and she answered me with humor. But I could see in her eyes the depressions she could feel. She does not care whatever other people may tell her, she’s only doing this for her kids because her husband has no enough income to provide their daily needs. She even has TB which she got from her sick husband. Her services to MANA BEKAY is due with medicines for them because MANA BEKAY operates an outlet that sells medicines.

Why did the organization needs to look for indigent families?

There was something wrong with the information from the HEAD who told me to look indigent families.

She told me to look for QUALIFIED BENEFICIARIES of a GERMAN ORGANIZATION who is willing to help indigent families to uplift their living.

When I uttered “BENEFICIARIES” the families were expecting for help and some goodies for them. They were hoping to be blessed with the help from our organization as the channel to that so-called GERMAN ORG.

So I went back to the headquarters and reported the details to out HEAD. She was so amazed with the stories of the 2 families and hastily submitted to report the results to the HEAD OFFICE.
