...hope this structure didn't hinder(Tacloban government ban) the small fishermen, from fishing around the Cancabato Bay..the only source of their livelihood, since the Spanish Days..

April 24, 2010 at 3:10 PM

i guess it didnt. the fishermen continues to do their stuff without conflicts with the activities of the dome. rather it made the area a safe and friendly fish port. another thing, most of the party goers used to pass by on its nearest wet fish market to buy the fish fresh from the port. the only concern that the city government should apply is their consistency on promoting the clean and green program.

... oh Yah.. some says and confirmed, that the Romualdezes deprived the small fishermen in Tacloban city, especially fishermen living in Brgy.Burayan and Brgy.San Jose, because of this ban in CANCABATO bay.. which is bad, bad, bad..:_(

@FROGGY
..yes of course it continues but for those who only have big motorboat that can explore the OCEAN.. I am referring to small fishermen with their only saddle fishing overnight around the vicinity of cancabato bay.. who used to sell fish for the amount of 50 to 100 pesos a night..
.. I do understand, you really don't know what's going on and in the minds of these fishermen..

April 24, 2010 at 3:23 PM

yeah, sadly it is. another issue is the dispersion of the whole area which will connect the AMPHITHEATER to ASTRODOME just to turn the whole place into a big BAY WALK, but according to the in-charge, they will be compensating those who will be dispersed. somehow, they have to take for the improvement of the area, for purposes of inviting businesses inside tacloban.

April 24, 2010 at 3:37 PM

i could not say i can barely feel what theses small fishermen are thinking with regards to their deprived activities for their living but for somehow i think i had an idea on what they really has in their minds. first, who among all individuals will be happy if you are deprived on what you NEED to do; second, who among all of us will win in a battle where our rivals uses the hundredfold weapons just to make us loose in the game.

this is a real world, and we cannot just give everything to them, the city government somehow provides education and proper support for small-scale businessmen from the proper handling to the financial support program. only if they will follow the rules and the proper procedures to do so.

..ohh..! someones concerned open up this topic.. for me Mr. frog..Mr. Anonymous had a point, that bay was not meant for the City Government or for the people to appreciate that no one is fishing. It is there hundred of years ago. I remember b4, in one of the Dept.of Tourism exhibit booth, they featured marine products (both for food consumption and adornments) that can be caught or find in the Cancabato Bay, they promoting the Cancabato bay aquatic resources. Now they prohibit fishing for the sake of HUC (highly urbanized city). Yes we're urbanized full of beautiful structure, but still we have a lot of unemployed taclobanons. A lot of them forced on their way out of Tacloban, to find greener pasteur in Manila or outside of the country..

FROGGY:
thanks MANG JUAN. but the road to success begins from small beginnings. who do you think should be responsible for the misfortune of the CANCABATO BAY? its also US, good thing this is being rehabilitated for the sake of not just the little fishermen but for the future inhabitants of the BAY. i could see somehow an improvement of hoe the bay looks now compared before. another thing is, discipline from the TACLOBANONs should also be considered. i could still remember our neighbors who throws dead animal bodies in the bay, an even their trashes whenever the city DUMP TRUCK couldn't visit our place.

trust me, i am CANCABATO BAY's witness.

Mr Frog Thank you...Our very point here is simply.. do not deprived those fishermen their own way of living in Cancabato Bay... It is good we initiate discipline living around the Bay, no further question about that.. but please, those people in the City Government bring back the Cancabato Bay to these fishermen...

Hi, my two cents. Ok, so the current mayor should have completed his high school education so that he could run the city better.

That being said let us be fair and know the details first before we jump into conclusions. First how can the Astrodome deny local fishermen of their livelihood? There is a ban on fishing all right. I know this because a friend works in the city fisheries office. However this move of the city is r4eally for the good of the fishermen. Trolling and casting really narrow nets are now prohibited. There is a ten year moratorium on fishing at Cancabato. That started in the early years of 2000. In the 90s Cancabato was at the verge of collapsing, fish pens were every where, illegal fishing methods were rampant.... If not for the city government's move to protect the bay's ecosystem, Cancabato would have been an ugly and dead bay. A fishing moratorium was in placed. Now mangroves are being grown in the San Jose side. While this restriction is in place, i see fishermen who who use hook and spear still fishing in the area. I don't know if this is right because all they catch are tiny fishes. The bay needs to resuscitate it self again. My friends added that once the ban ends, all registered fishermen of that area will have to paint their boats red/yellow?. Any boat that is not colored red/yellow? will be apprehended.

Please stop posting if you do not know the details. Most especially if you've been out of the country and has been relaying on second hand information. Honestly, it makes me sick when somebody from abroad posts about how we should do things in this country. You flew the coop man. Leave us alone!!! Stop acting like you are a big shot or something. This ain't your country anymore. You don't know how things work here now.

..haha.. what? it make you sick..? wherever I am, I'm still a Filipino.. I'll tell you a FACT.. we as an OFW here and in other parts of the world, have a right to say on what should be done in any parts of the Philippines.. you know why?.. our remittances we send in the Philippines worth 5 to 6 Billion pesos every year.. taxable by the National Government.. and you know what? it is distributed or ABULOY by the president in the Local Government (like city hall) in the form of IRA. (Internal Revenue Allotment).. so the bulk part of that money used by your idol the city mayor, in building that ASTRODOME,AMPHITHEATER,The new park (former BOTANICAL GARDEN), salaries of your policemen for protecting your ass etc.etc. most part of it coming from us OFW..

so be careful of what you're saying..

That city mayor cannot build that or those structures all alone from the taxes of Tacloban city.. limos lang yan nila galing sa Presidente ng Pilinas..

so you know the reason why Martin treats GMA, a million worth of dinner..

that should be your two cents..!

DODONG FLOWER of TACLOBAN

to Mr. GINGINEER:

sir, i guess the bulk part that the city government is using for the construction of such establishments or the rehabilitation something came from the income of the city alone. what was being alloted by the national fund were given to the CONGRESSMEN, whom has wider area to be served. the city became even so transparent with the costs of the projects done and is saving bigger amount for the allocation of bigger projects.

the said revenues coming from the OFW were allocated to the NATIONAL GOVERNMENT PROJECTS intended for GENERAL projects for DEPED, DPWH, and others.

remember how the CITY could benefit from those who came from the nearby towns just to do business in here, as per history, it happens many years ago even before these so-called "ROMUALDEZES" take charge of the city, improvements were very impossible.

the PROVINCE even became active in serving the city of TACLOBAN when they found out the issue of HUC. why do you think are they after for tacloban? it is the revenue that the city earns.

April 29, 2010 at 10:04 AM

ay hala! too muc na po.. poitical na maxado. pls po..

this blog has nothing to do with the ROMUALDEZES, its only purpose is to invite visitors..

Gingeneer, when you left this city, you left this city not because you want to be a hero. You left this country because you wanted a better life. I respect that. But Phulezzzz, on't give me this patriotic b...t, becuase you guys are the last persons to be called one.
I am not taking away any of your contributions to nation building. Anyone, even foreigners are most welcome to help the country, but please stop acting like you are our messiah. FYI, in two years time the entire BPO industry will surpass the OFW contributions to the country's coffer. Again I am not belittling the OFW's copntribution. I just want all those all-of-a- sudden the boastfull OFWs, to know their place in the sun, among the other Filipinos who are making this country better.

All I am driving at is for you OFWs to stop acting like you know it all. Can you imagine that, an Engineer uses a second hand information which turns out to be a dud as a premise for his critique? I guess now you know. This Froggy blogger's intention is just to give you people something to cheer about. Only to see this article turn into a gossip fountain. Jeeez, it seems like most of those crabbies on the net would usually turn out to be OFWs. When there is something good from this country for the world to see, crabs are quick to breast beat and shout to the world all that is bad about us.
